Job Description
The Senior Credit Associate is responsible to act as the Originations team's key credit structuring resource, acting as a key counterpart to the Relationship Managers. This individual will work with a team of credit structuring analysts who will directly support the Relationship Management team in the analysis of new transaction and the write up of credit correspondence (new business, modification memorandums, or other credit correspondence where a risk change has occurred), ensuring adherence to firm credit underwriting and analytical policies and procedures, and accuracy. They will ensure accuracy and completeness of information, and that information is presented in a way that facilitates ease of decision making by the Head of Originations and or Investment Committee.
Being a private lender, DLP Lending underwrites all of our loans based on proprietary guidelines & checklists, so it is imperative to the success of this role that both experience and open-mindedness are deployed in analyzing credit risks and mitigants, and examples are set for all team members to follow. This role is critical to both protecting the best interests of the organization, as well as expediting all qualified files through closing.
What you have already achieved: (Requirements)
- 5+ years experience in underwriting, credit analysis, and/or commercial lending.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Economics.
- Financial Acumen: Expertise in reading financial statements, market reporting data, building financial models, and assessing creditworthiness.
- Risk Management: Proven ability to analyze complex data, identify risks, and make sound, objective credit decisions.
- Communication: Clearly explaining decisions to clients, brokers, and internal teams.
- Attention to Detail: Ensuring accuracy in reviewing applications and policies
- Analytical & Critical Thinking: Interpreting data, questioning assumptions, and making logical decisions.
What you are great at: (Responsibilities)
- Responsible for the initial sizing of deal & borrower for term sheet, modifications, and take out financing.
- Exhibiting a deep understanding of firm's loan underwriting guidelines, pricing grids and leverage partners credit boxes to identify loans that are ineligible.
- Consistently providing quick, yet accurate, responses to all inquiries about assigned credit files, and maintaining dialogue with lending staff to determine the viability of new loans or strategies related to the renewal of existing loans as it relates to terms and structure.
- Contributing feedback and participating in Credit Committee meetings and decisioning.
- Make decisions that will positively impact the company & its ability to achieve its goals.
- Partner with Relationship Managers and Directors to screen and underwrite new lending opportunities, providing indicative terms based on preliminary deal data. Analyze sponsor pro formas, budgets, borrower financials, and market data to assess feasibility and determine appropriate loan sizing. Leverage insights from multiple platforms to support the "Pro Deal Mentality" and ensure alignment with the firm’s Risk Appetite.
- Work with Relationship Managers and Directors to complete New Business Submissions for presentation to the Credit Committee, and prepare any necessary change memos following initial Committee approval. Support RMs throughout the deal process by serving as a key point of contact for brokers and sponsors - gathering information, addressing questions, and keeping deals moving forward efficiently.
- Structuring loans based on deal-level risks and mitigants.
- Evaluating borrower experience and history of execution.
- Evaluating real estate investment deal strategies, and the underlying assets as-is and after-repair values.
- Underwriting properties and borrower financials with a focus on a pro deal mentality while creating approval memos, making good credit decisions and recommendations, and identifying and mitigating risks.
- Gaining a deep understanding of: built to rent, lot development & multi-family construction real estate deals or DSCR loans.
